Norman T Newton defined landscape architecture as “…the art - of the science, if preferred - of arranging land, together with the spaces and objects”. PrincetonWordNet defines landscape architecture as 'The branch of architecture dealing with the arrangement of land and buildings for human use and enjoyment'.

The American Society of Landscape Architects describe landscape architecture as follows- 'Landscape architecture encompasses the analysis, planning, design, management, and stewardship of the natural and built environments. Types of projects include: residential; parks and recreation; monuments; urban design; streetscapes and public spaces; transportation corridors and facilities; gardens and arboreta; security design; hospitality and resorts; institutional; academic campuses; therapeutic gardens; historic preservation and restoration; reclamation; conservation; corporate and commercial; landscape art and earth sculpture; interior landscapes; and more'. Landscape architecture is different from landscape design although the two are closely interrelated.

A landscape designer needs a high level of skill and training. They usually need a degree to work as a landscape architect. The idea of landscape architecture may be to preserve land, to channelize the natural resources to be used properly, to improve the natural beauty of a place, to prepare land for construction purposes etc. it involves looking for and choosing land to be worked upon, working up plans for proper utilization of land and water resources, making written and graphic plans for land utilization and design, review and analysis of the master plan, making drainage and irrigation plans and so on. The landscape architect will have to integrate the design of roads, bridges etc with respect to the aesthetic requirements of the land they are working on.

How-Is-Geometry-Used-In-Architecture      Architecture and geometry are closely interlinked. After all, architecture is based on mathematical principles. As a matter of fact, geometry is the guiding principle of architecture. Marcus Vitruvius, an ancient Roman architect said that precise ratios must be used in construction. He said this based on his observation that the human body is modeled on precise ratio- the ratio of 1 to PHI (1.618). This ratio actually exists in every aspect of nature and is considered as the perfect ratio. More..
