The World Health Organization declared the new virus strain as an epidemic. The code has also risen from five to six, making it the highest pandemic designation.

Swine flu is also known as the H1N1 strain. The virus is entirely new and contagious. It has gradually spread from one person to another, and also from one country to another. From Mexico, the epidemic spread to America, Europe and then Asia, making it one of the most widely spread epidemics. The virus quickly spread to areas where there are limited sources and poor health care facilities further compounding the illness.

To date, there have been over 3253 cases of swine flu deaths but the number is rising with the latest victim country being India. Schools, colleges and malls in many parts of India have been closed down as there is a fear that people will contract the infection by being in crowded places.

It is recommended that people read about swine flu and its causes so that they can take the necessary precautions to keep the disease at bay. They should not panic and will only happen when people educate themselves about the disease. They should avoid going to public places where there are large crowds. The flu is spreading fast and everybody should be aware of the symptoms.
