Loss Of Biodiversity Due To Deforestation

There are hundreds of hectares of forests disappearing every single day all around the world due to rampant deforestation activities. This has adversely affected the flora and the fauna. and hence, the decline in biodiversity is very apparent. The trees are cut down for economic benefits without understanding how important they are from the climatic point of view.

Lesser trees lead to more amount of carbon dioxide in the air, which in turn raises the overall temperature on the planet.

However, a subtle loss of biodiversity fails to show the significance. And that is why many times this loss is not noticed or recorded.

Despite people knowing the negative effects of deforestation, trees are still cut down for consumers and economic benefit. This results in the extinction of more and more species, and a fight for survival among the species for space for living as the forest areas go on shrinking.

It is high time that people begin to understand the destruction that deforestation can bring to the living habitats of flora and fauna. Deforestation directly leads to loss of biodiversity as the animal species living in the forests run out of space for living. This, in turn would affect their food chain and lead to several problems, including extinction of some species.

The effect of deforestation has had the largest effect on the rain forests around the world, which are vanishing at a brisk pace. Also, about half of all species in the world live in the rain-forests and more damage to them means damage to the overall biodiversity.

Lost-Of-Biodiversity-In-The-Amazon      Research of over 20 years shows that about 12 percent of the plant species in the Amazon forests have become rare, and are on the brink of extinction. There has been a tremendous loss of biodiversity in the Amazon forests in the last decade mainly because of man’s quest for economic benefits. More..
