Good Things About Genetic Engineering

Genetic engineering has been used on a large scale to contribute towards better health and well being of people and other living beings. For example, genetic engineering has been used in agriculture by sowing genetically engineered seeds that grow quicker and are more resistant to plant diseases. This leads to increased crop yields, increased income and a reduction in the use of pesticides.

The human synthetic insulin was the first genetic engineered medicine which was approved by the FDA. Genetic engineering also led to the development of human growth hormone, which is used as a replacement for the hormone that was initially extracted from dead bodies. Then in 1987, the FDA approved the first genetically produced vaccination for treating Hepatitis B. Genetic engineering has, today, gradually expanded to produce a number of vaccines and drugs, and thereby reducing many diseases and saving lives.

Genetic engineering is also used in production of genetically modified foods which can resist pests, fungal and bacterial infections, have longer freshness quality and offer better nutritional value to consumers. A genetically modified virus has also been used to develop a more environmentally safe battery which will last longer than the conventional batteries.

Hence, we see that many areas of life sciences are using genetic engineering in solving biological problems. The requirement for people who are trained in the genetic engineering has also increased as the number of applications powered by genetic engineering is going to rise in the future. Genetic engineering is slowly and steadily used for cloning in plants and animals as well.

Human-Genetics-And-Disease      When it comes to development of diseases, two factors play an important role. The first is the environment, and second human genetics. Human genetics and diseases are intertwined in the sense that when there is an abnormality in a person's genetic material, he would get a genetic disease or disorder. More..
