What Is Chemistry The Study Of ?

Chemistry is the study of structure, behavior, properties and composition of matter along with the chemical reactions during which it undergoes some changes.

It also deals with the relationship between energy and matter. Chemical formulae and chemical bonds that exist between different molecules and atoms also come under the study of chemistry. As there are different types of matters in the world, chemistry is divided into various disciplines such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, neurochemistry and analytical chemistry.

Organic chemistry is mainly concerned with the composition and structure of organic compounds such as hydrocarbons, consisting of C-H bonds, and their derivatives. Inorganic chemistry, on the other hand, deals with behavior and properties of inorganic compounds such as Na2O (sodium oxide) or MgCl2 (Magnesium Chloride).

Physical chemistry, also known as physicochemistry, basically studies the atomic, subatomic, macroscopic and microscopic phenomena in terms of concepts of physics (statistical mechanics, quantum chemistry, dynamics and thermodynamics) in chemical systems.

Biochemistry specializes in studying substances and chemical processes in biological organisms. It is concerned with the function and structure of cellular components like lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids etc. Neurochemicals, which have a strong impact on the functions of neuron, are studied under the subject of neurochemistry.
Analytical chemistry basically deals with the chemical composition of artificial and natural materials. Unlike organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry, the subject of analytical chemistry is not bounded by any specific type of chemical reaction or compound.

There are also some other forms of chemistry like Astrochemistry, which deals with chemical reactions and elements in space; Immunochemistry, which is the study of reactions and chemicals in the immune system etc.
