The term ecology originates from a Greek word, which means ‘house’. |
It is a part of science that involves the interdisciplinary study of the interactive processes, which takes place between the organisms and the environment they live in. The study of the ecosystem is also a part of ecology. Ecosystem is a network or a web of all relations that exists in various organisms hailing from various organization and its levels. Being connected to biodiversity, ecology is a study where the professionals, called the ecologists do various researches on the tiniest organisms, for example a bacteria, inter-relating it with its atmosphere, which is regulated by processes like respiration and photosynthesis, that out of its biosphere.
During the early era of the 20th century, the entire concept of ecology was considered as scientific history of nature. And this had the influence of Newtonian sciences via its analytical processes. Some of the renowned personalities related to this sphere were, Comte de Buffon, Georges-Louis Leclerc, Jean-Baptiste and Charles Hutton. These famous pioneers had made their contributions towards the ecological development, either directly or indirectly. Ecology is the most diversified aspects present in science and therefore, its account is of complicated nature.
Both evolution and ecology are related and a part of the life sciences’ branches. The conceptualization of ecology and also the theory of evolution originate from life history, natural selection, population, adaptation, inheritance and development. Both of the aspects of science contain the elements of genetics and they have scientific connection because both are the studies of networks, hierarchies, kinship and relations in the genes.
