The term, "Collision" is mostly used by everyone to indicate an automotive disaster or some crash of some sort. Usually, collision brings to our mind as two automotives crashing with each other. But there is more to the word "Collision" than just this. |
Indeed, the meaning of the word Collision and an automotive car disaster might be synonymous in nature but if we define it in much broader sense, we will arrive with the definition of Collision in Physics. Taking Physics in consideration, we arrive with the meaning of collision as physically powerful interaction of two or more bodies that spans an absolute short time. With the given definition, we cannot think that collision is only present in car accidents, however, we can also say that it happens in different scenarios of colliding bodies like balls that are crashing with each other on the billiard table and the like.
There are also instances, for example in car collisions, wherein external forces are present. In such a situation, what we only need to think about are the forces that are present between objects or bodies. If the given forces that are present between objects or bodies are greater than external forces, we can actually do away with the latter and treat the former as a system that is isolated.
When we talk about collision, we cannot ignore momentum. If collision happens, momentum also takes place. Momentum is also present in collision. Therefore, the value of the system prior to the collision and after the collision remains the same.
