Easy Physics Experiment

When we were children, most of us wandered as to how a small coin can sink in the sea once we throw it but a very big ferry floats in the ocean despite its size. If we asked our parents how this is possible, they had many explanations that they gave us but the answer is very simple that it can even be stated in just two words- surface tension.

By the time that we are in school, we are made acquainted of the reason why such big ferries are able to float despite its enormous size. Our Physics teacher would tell us that it is because of surface tension. What is surface tension then? This is actually liquid’s surface property due to which the surface of a liquid is also attracted with another surface.

To further explain this, we have an easy Physic experiment that would show how this happens and this experiment is called the floating needle. By doing this, we would be able to see the explanation on the floating surface that we see in any water forms.

What we need is sewing needle, fork, tissue paper, glass, and water.

By doing this experiment, we would be having two variants owing to the fact that we will be using two things (fork and tissue paper) to place the sewing needle in the water.

The experiment requires you to be very careful in placing the sewing needle in the water as it might get wet and of course, will sink. One way to avoid this is by rubbing the needle since it will be “oiled” for further success in the given experiment

Importance-Of-Physics-In-Daily-Life      Physics is not an independent science.  It has its tentacles in almost all areas of life and has made technology alive.  Without physics, our lives would come to a standstill.  Man has learnt not only to tame elephants and tigers but also electric energy, kinetic energy and mass.  More..
