Astronomy is popular and in use since a decade from the time of our ancestors. In old times, astronomers used to derive observations and dates, making of calendars and events through astronomy.

From the 20th century, astronomy has been split into two branches i.e. observational and theoretical. Both fields compliment each other completely. Nowadays, professional astronomy is considered similar to astrophysics. Astrophysics deals with the natural science of the universe. It is the big branch of astronomy. Since astrophysics is a broad subject, therefore it contains many disciplines of physics like atomic, molecular physics, electromagnetism, nuclear physics, thermodynamics and many more.

Both the term astronomy and astrophysics are very similar topic. According to strict dictionary definition, the term “astronomy” is defined as the study of objects and matter outside the Earth’s atmosphere and the term “astrophysics” is the branch of astronomy which deals with the behavior, physical properties and phenomena of celestial objects.

Astronomy and Astrophysics is one of the known European Journal which publish paper on theoretical and observational astronomy and astrophysics. It was published by a global publishing company Springer (the collaboration of Springer Science and Business Media). They published Astronomy and Astrophysics from 1960 till 2000. Meanwhile EDP Sciences, a scientific publisher with French base started publishing the companion A&A supplement series. In 2000, both journals merged as combined journal known simply as Astronomy and Astrophysics published by EDP Sciences.
