Materialistic Metaphysics

The term “materialistic metaphysics” is controversial in itself as it claims that only matter exists. Metaphysics, however deals with the immaterial also. Thoughts and emotions, numbers and concepts exist though they are not matter. |
Therefore this part of metaphysics might need some alterations in its explanation. Now the mind which has no matter is still connected to a material body and cannot exist without it. Even when we equate mind with mentality, it is still said to be in the abstract. It cannot be thought of as a physical unit. However some may say so and the arguments put forth by scholars like J.J.C. Smart support it. The argument here is that mind and the brain are one. Thoughts are actually manifestation of modified matter of the brain. This now affirms that thought to be material. Thus materialism is now true when the concept has been modified.
This altered form of materialistic metaphysics can be called naturalism. Naturalism says that everything which exists, both material and immaterial can be explained properly in scientific terms. To make the circle complete, naturalism is a front for Hegelianism. Hegelianism comes from the theory of first principles. This in turn has its roots in the principles of science.
To support materialistic metaphysics, we have physiologists who have found a connection between mind and brain activity. If they are able to show the mind having a physiology, then their argument will be perfect. Cyberneticists have contributed to a certain extent in that the artifacts they have produced display mind-like behavior. Philosophers can use this to maintain their belief that humans are a form of highly complicated machines.
