Does Evolution Violate The 2nd Law Of Thermodynamics ?

The process of evolution has often been criticized as a violation of the second law of thermodynamics. Though scholars, down the ages, have differed on their support or opposition towards this thought, it has been proven today that evolution does not violate the second law of thermodynamics.

The second law of thermodynamics explains entropy, or the tendency of systems on a molecular level to move from a state of higher organization to that of the lowest organization.

However, scholars, all through the ages, have often interpreted the second law of thermodynamics to indicate that the Entropy of a closed system will not decrease. This has led to the present debate of whether or not the process of evolution violates the second law of thermodynamics. However, it should be kept in mind that life can never be viewed as a “closed” system. The sun is a vast source of energy that can help put a number of things and living beings in motion. The process of evolution, which stems from this source of energy, is a continuous one, which is and will always be in progress forever. Therefore, it would be incorrect to term the process of evolution as a “closed” system, a fact which once admitted, proves beyond a doubt, that evolution does not violate the second law of thermodynamics.

Though this does not mean that the theory of evolution is accurate or even true, it does, however, prove that stating that it is baseless only because it can be thought to violate the second law of thermodynamics is also unjustified and incorrect.
