Society comprises of people who live together either in a region, a state, a nation or even the world for their communal benefit. |
They are interdependent on each other for their needs and devises ways of peaceful co-habitation. The science that studies the various aspects of this society and their relation to each other is referred to as social science and these varied aspects of living mutually forms the areas of Social Sciences. Hence it encompasses within itself the fields of Economics, History, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Sociology, Social Policy, Human Geography, Demography, Anthropology, Archaeology, Communication Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Media Studies, Gerontology, Philology and Social Psychology. Sometimes, Comparative law and comparative religion (the comparative study of the legal systems and religions of different nations and cultures) are also considered as parts of this science.
The main aim of any science is to base their study on observation, experience or experiments. Hence the varied areas of Social Sciences are examined empirically. They are learned on the basis of hypotheses that are analyzed by observation or experiments. For example in Economics numeric data are analyzed statistically.
In Political Science various forms of governments are observed to find out which is most conducive to people and most fruitful in bringing about a peaceful co existence. In Social Psychology a person’s attitude, personality and motivations are observed and examined to find their influence on social factors (like peers), their ability to function in small groups and large organizations and the result of their one-to-one interactions.
