An anthropologist delves into social, cultural, religious and other such aspects of life in a society and tries to understand how these factors influence human behavior and thought. There are several kinds of anthropologists. While some anthropologists study fossils to understand the process of human evolution, others try to understand the pattern in which a disease spreads in a population or how a language is an integral part of a culture. There are many branches of anthropology. Cultural anthropology- As the name suggests, this branch of anthology deals with the culture of a society. It involves a study of morals, values, religious beliefs, traditions, customs, art etc of a society. These anthropologists also study the problems faced by different societies and how they deal with it. These ideas and values are not transferred genetically. They undergo changes and innovations over time. Anthropologists work in different societies and compare the customs and practices of different communities. They also try to understand how certain practices and beliefs have changes with time. It is essential that an anthropologist has to be unbiased. Then alone can he make fair conclusions of his research.

Linguistic anthropology- Language is an integral part of a culture. This is the means by which humans communicate with each other. Linguistic anthropologists try to study the origin, evolution and development of a language. This gives a glimpse into the evolution of the society as a whole. Besides this, they also attempt to study the changes that occur in the human brain as it comprehends the changes that occur in language as it evolves.

Archaeology- This branch of anthropology deals with the study of fossils and remains to understand the biological, cultural, artistic and social aspects of life in society hundreds and thousands of years ago. They se materials like animal bones, pottery, tools, remains of buildings etc to theorize on how life in the society may have been. They also attempt to study the ideologies, mode of sustenance and the interaction of the people with their environment.

Biological Anthropology- This is also called physical anthropology. This branch of anthropology deals with the biological aspects of human origin, evolution and the differences between people in different societies. Biological anthropologists study primates and how they evolved. They also study the overall health of different populations. These anthropologists also do genetic studies to find out links between different cultures and populations.

There are other branches of anthropology like forensic anthropology, medical anthropology, and ecological anthropology. All branches are interrelated and make their mark in the filed of anthropology.
