The name anthropology is derived from the Greek word “anthropos” meaning “human” and “logia” meaning “study”. It is a well known fact that the environment, food, climate, culture, religion etc in which one is brought up shapes their outlook and behavior. Humans also have some innate tendencies which become evident as they interact with other humans. Anthropology aims to study the nuances of human nature, the basic characteristics and the influence of upbringing on human nature. This is a very vast topic and there are several aspects to be covered. People who study anthropology usually go on to specialize in one or more branches of the subject. There are different branches of anthropology like cultural anthropology, biological anthropology and so on.

People who study anthropology work in much the same way as a scientist works in a lab. In this case, the anthropologist does not work in a lab, he works in the society. Anthropologists will have to study different cultures and societies and understand their linguistics, social and cultural norms, religious beliefs, food and so on. They will have to analyze cause and effect in society. For instance, if an anthropologist finds that a certain disease like deficiency of vitamin C is common in a society, they will have to analyze the dietary habits of the society and identify what is lacking. Besides field work, anthropologists also work in labs. Biologists or physical anthropologists often work in labs. In conclusion, anthropology is a broad and diverse field with great scope for different careers like social research, public relations and so on.
