The wide range of Philosophy has been divided into 5 wide branches. |
They are, by name, metaphysics, logic, ethics, epistemology and aesthetics. The study area of philosophy that metaphysics concerns itself with is the reality of this world that ends up being far more impactful on life than any science or anything else. Its two large factors are that of being (the question and answering of existence) and that of world (the question and answering of our humanness in all senses. It literally means beyond the physical and refers in most the questions of existence.
Epistemology is that branch of philosophy that is concerned with knowledge. As opposed to the accumulation of knowledge, it asks the questions about how we know what we know (and eventually the deeper question of how that is to be known). The branch of ethics is concerned with the oughts of life – what a person ought to do, act like, say etc. Ethics and Epistemology are inter dependent on each other as one has to have the knowledge of the what, why and how’s of existence to conclude on how we ought to act – that is the knowledge of our reality and existence.
The last one is Aesthetics. This deals largely with the study of art. Though not really in the hierarchical line of the other four, it borrows and depends on the other four. One of the main things it deals with is the appreciation of beauty. This is an important aspect of it.
