The issues that automatically face human beings when it comes to the basic reason of their existence are what it was started to answer. It started as a movement that was pursued that slowly occupied the minds of people that crystallized into what we call philosophy.  

There are some definitions that have come to be that have defined the structure that the subject of philosophy has come to be. While it has taken a largely academic view, it also lies in the truth of life that affects the common man. While the academic subject is largely elite in nature, the common man aspect of philosophy is always growing with the growing amount of knowledge that everyday life brings. While it is not respected as an institution, it remains to be a movement a large that seeks the answers to the questions of existence, meaning of life and purpose among all else that looms over the very basic fact we exist and that we are who we are.

The academic form of philosophy has certain established principles but even those are established only because they make the best sense – the very same reason that the common sense of philosophy still exists. It is, at best, a growing quest for greater understanding of all existence – something that plagues every man and woman lest they choose to ignore the question.
