The idea of following a particular path or way of life is to bring about organization and discipline in life. It also serves as a purpose to give direction and meaning to life. |
How should one conduct oneself, one’s thoughts and actions are all essential to the development of the human brain and race. Generations hand down beliefs and ideas and ways of life to newer generations, the latter who in turn hand the same ideals and ideas mixed with their own modern way of thinking to the next generation and so on and so forth.
The outcome of generations of thinking and actions is what makes life as we know it today. It has shaped the way man thinks and functions. We often wonder where we have come from, how we think, deal with people as a community or race and why we do the things we do. Do we impart knowledge to our children that will be detrimental to their thinking and future lives? Rather, can we impart such knowledge? What will the consequences be? We have an answer to this – in the actions of criminal minds, miscreants and delinquent minds.
Rules of society and notions of character govern almost everyone’s thinking. How did we come about such rules and further, how did we come about accepting those rules so readily? How can we instinctively know what is right and wrong? Who sets these standards? Ethics attempts to put some of these ideas into perspective however, practically, it is up to the student or learner to use that knowledge along with life experiences and come up with the answers.
