Given the vast subjects, expansive spheres and osmotic nature that the study of philosophy delves into, someone with such an academic background has the chance to take up a job in almost any field he or she chooses to!Once you are armed with a degree in philosophy (possessing the technical knowledge of the subject matter) it is for you to now discover what are you intrinsic strengths and combine that with the knowledge of philosophy.

So, if you have a gift of the gab for example, perhaps a career in politics can be your calling. Or if you are interested in medicine, perhaps that is what the doctor will order. If you love writing with chalk on blackboards and addressing classrooms full of youngsters from new generations, academia could well be your thing. If you have a way with words and are passionate about the written word, writing (sub-divided into journalism, novel writing, feature writing, technical writing, entertainment writing or even research) could be your calling.

What you probably didn’t know is that a major in philosophy could even get you a job in a field as interesting (and daunting) as science! If that’s your thing, perhaps the fields of biology, chemistry or physics would interest you. Then there are the fields of geology (field of the study of the earth’s land mass and what it constitutes), astronomy and social science fields like sociology, psychology and even fields as diverse as anthropology (field of the study of humanity) and a pious career in religion!

Of course, if you’re interested in raking in the moolah, or have daddy’s big business and his money making genes flowing in your veins, then even following in his footsteps in business is a field that you can apply your philosophy knowledge to!
